Experts say that no food can by itself meet all of our nutritional needs, but in this regard ice cream is something of an exception; this statement proves how nutritious ice cream is. For all the
nutrients of milk are present in ice cream but in an even more concentrated form.
Dr. Fikret Özme of Sincan State Hospital calls attention to the
fact that ice cream, which is a dairy product, can easily spoil.
Özme says, “only ice cream manufactured and sold under sanitary conditions must be preferred. The most important point we must take into consideration when consuming ice cream is that it has
been prepared conforming to rules of health and hygiene”.
Dr. Fikret Özme notes that Turkey consumes less ice cream than European countries because it is misinformed on the subject and adds that “ice cream is rich in calcium, protein, fat, carbohydrates and vitamin D, and can be consumed year-round and not just
during the summer”.
ENT specialist Dr. Hüseyin Ünlü of Sincan State Hospital says that contrary to common belief ice cream is good for throat infections; eating ice cream is especially beneficial in the prevention of
bleeding and other complications following a tonsillectomy.
Dr. Ünlü explains that ice cream prevents postoperative bleeding because its coldness constricts the pharyngeal veins.
Research
has shown that it is cold rather than heat which germs cannot withstand and that furthermore ice cream relieves pain by
numbing the sick area.
